ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCES-EVERYDAY!

The United States of America, a country of awe-inspiring natural wonders, unrivalled wilderness, sun scorched deserts, endless miles of prairies, rugged mountain ranges, tropical swampland and the rich, historical colonial past of verdant, leafy New England. From cowboy country, to west coast surf dudes, to New York society, America is as diverse as it is united. Each state has more than enough to keep the most restless and inquisitive entertained. Each state has its own identity, so much so they very often feel like separate countries.

A vast country covering almost four million square miles, only slightly smaller than the entire continent of Europe, a country so vast that it encompasses three different time zones across its 50 states with a population of 325 million people. The United States is the most dominant superpower in terms of economy and military prowess. It is said that “everything is bigger and better in the states” and it would take a brave man to argue!

While the exact year that golf was introduced to America has never been precisely established, history suggests that the Royal and Ancient game was first played around the mid 18th century. The early pioneers of American golf came from Scotland and they dominated every aspect of the game from winning championships to designing the courses. By the Roaring Twenties and the Thirties the states had begun to produce their own star players, Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen to name but a few. Their prominence fueled another boom in U.S. golf and course building, until post war Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus raised American golf to a stratospheric level. The Scots may have invented golf, but it was the Americans who developed the game into the global phenomenon that it is today!

America is home to over half of the world’s golf courses, including some of the most iconic and exclusive clubs to be found anywhere and whilst it is almost impossible to gain access to Augusta National, Shinnecock Hills or Oakmont, there are still a plethora of famous venues that welcome guests, Pebble Beach, Kiawah Island, Sawgrass and the Blue Monster at Doral. For every top named course that you’ve heard of, there are at least 100 courses that you haven’t, many of which are almost equally as good.

The sheer size of the country means that golf in America is now played over a wide diversity of geographical terrains and landscapes, from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, to the lush green Everglades of Florida and along the endless miles of Carolina’s sun-kissed shoreline.

The attraction for the British golfer are manifold; outstanding value for money, exceptional levels of service, no language problems, direct flights to most states and a fantastic climate year round in the southern states. Most British golfers who have loaded their clubs onto a plane destined for the United States, were likely to have been heading for Florida or the Carolinas. Quite understandable, given their location on America’s Atlantic seaboard, not to mention the myriad of glorious golfing options that they present. But there are 47 other states in this massive country, each with fantastic fairways to explore!

America is no ordinary destination and golfing holidays there will most definitely be anything but ordinary. A destination that conjures up an abundant palette of possibilities...
