MOROCCO’S GOLFING MECCA
Agadir has been a principal port and trading centre since Phoenician times. The Portuguese, French and even the Danes have tried to lay claim to Agadir at some time in its history. Alas, the cultural heritage was all but lost due to the massive earthquake that devastated the city in 1960; the reconstruction resulting in the vibrant, thriving city that is the modern Agadir of today.
Morocco’s premier beach holiday resort, Agadir, accounts for over a third of Moroccan tourism. Situated at the foot of the Atlas Mountains, Agadir’s jewel in the crown is its seven miles of spectacular sandy beach, bathed in sunshine for an average of 320 days a year. Temperatures rarely fall below 70 degrees but golfers will be pleased to know that even in the height of summer a cooling Atlantic breeze keeps the temperature manageable in the 80’s. It is something of a complete contrast to the imperial mystique of Marrakech, the bustling metropolis that is Casablanca and regal repose of Rabat. In these cities tourists can be forgiven for feeling that they are somewhat encroaching as the Moroccans go about their daily lives. However, in Agadir tourism IS the major industry and tourists are welcomed enthusiastically. Famed for its seafood, Agadir was the first sardine port in the world and there are a plethora of quality restaurants and bars to provide for evening entertainment. To cater for those for whom a wager on the golf course does not sate their need for exhilaration there are three casinos, whilst others may prefer to dance the night away in one of the many discotheques.
Agadir is developing into a dream destination for golfers with the 36 hole Golf Du Soliel club, 27 hole Golf Les Dunes, 9 hole Royal Golf Club and soon to be opened, 27 hole Ocean Golf Club. Preened to the pinnacle of perfection, the courses rival the best that Europe has to offer and they are conveniently clustered together 15 minutes from the centre of the tourist area. Shuttle buses operate hourly from all of the main hotels negating the necessity to hire a car. Our portfolio of preferred accommodation ranges from sophisticated 5 star luxury hotels to 4 star resort hotels, the majority are located adjacent to the beach and are perfectly positioned to take advantage of Agadir’s attractions.
WORLD GOLF thoroughly recommends Agadir as its premier Moroccan golf destination, particularly if this is your first taste of THE KINGDOM OF GOLF , we would also advocate Agadir as the perfect resort for golfing groups, societies and tournaments. Agadir is quite simply...
